We would like to say a big thank you to all 100+ participants, speakers, debaters and partners who attended the SorTex conference "From waste to innovation" on April 23rd at Tekstilmuseet Museum Midtjylland and Bæredygtig Herning.
The conference brought together experts, municipalities, public authorities, researchers, companies, NGOs and knowledge institutions from both sides of the Øresund to focus on both challenges and new opportunities for textile waste management.
We discussed everything from citizen behavior and circular business models to legislation, extended producer responsibility and what we can learn from the plastics industry. As well as getting our hands on textile waste and making suggestions on how to give it the most value.
And most importantly: We felt the willingness to listen and the willingness to act - together.
The conference was the first of three that we will hold over the next three years in the SorTex project, which works to develop and test new methods and business models for textile collection, sorting and recycling.
